The Pentagon and the incumbent TV broadcasters have agreed to a spectrum-sharing deal for the 2025-2110 MHz bands. The National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) is urging the FCC to make changes that would allow the Department of Defense (DoD) to move its operations from the 1755-1780 MHz spectrum and free up that spectrum for pairing with 2155-2180 MHz bands. p

Broadcom Corporation today announced that the Chinese cellphone manufacturer K-Touch has chosen its quad-core turnkey platform for its new W98 and W96 Android-based smartphones. Broadcom's integrated smartphone platform allows K-Touch to provide customers with smartphones that can operate on China Unicom's HSPA+ network.

T-Mobile confirmed an infrastructure software fix is being put in place to address much slower data speeds for some of its customers. TmoNews collected complaints from a number of T-Mobile customers in spots like California, New York, Boston, New Mexico, Texas and Hawaii. The outlet pointed to a speed test that had downlink speeds all the way down into the Kbps range.

I find giant phones hard to carry and use, but I'm well aware that many people like the bigger images and text they offer. These so-called phablets, with screens measuring about 6 inches diagonally, are nearly as big as the smallest tablets. Unlike tablets, they can make phone calls over cellular networks.

The four major U.S. carriers have agreed to stop charging for most premium SMS in the hopes of curbing fraud. Lawmakers from 45 states pushed for mobile operators to move away from the practice. AT amp;T, Sprint and T-Mobile all agreed to cease most PSMS charges to help prevent customers from getting hit with fraudulent third-party charges, a practice referred to as 鈥渃ramming.鈥
