CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS OF KUDL SUMMER LEAGUE 2016: COUNT BLOOKU!!
KUDL congratulates the winners of the 2016 Summer League Count Blooku, captained by Kalamazoo College students Grace Kiel and Theodore Scott Cambert. Blooku defeated regular season winners Maloondalorians in hotly fought finals at the tournament at River Oaks on August 13th. Count Blooku defeated Maloondalorians led by Chris Baer and Kathy Williams 15-12. Key facts of the game would be Meech (Michelle Bustamante) getting open all the time and then the outstanding run through defense of Eli and the consistent hustle plays of KJ and Adam. Count Blooku went 8-2 in the regular season while Maroondalorians went 9-1. Yay KUDL Summer 2016!!

After entering the tournament as the number one seed, Dark Green, Kuppa Troop, fought their way to victory with a 13-11 come from behind victory over Pink Pony. Down two points at half, Kuppa also had to come from behind to beat sLIMErs in the semi-final round 13-10.
KUDL congratulates its players on a great season, a great tournament, and a great win. Cody becomes the only KUDL captain with back-to-back championships and joins an exclusive group of captains with two championships, which includes only Ed Kenny and now David Mandrick as well.

CONGRATULATIONS MOST SPIRITED TEAM: sLIMErs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And now for the award that really matters. KUDL voted Lime Green - sLIMErs as most SPIRITED team. Perhaps this spirit comes from the fact that all sLIMErs agreed that this was their favorite and best ever KUDL team! sLIMErs thank all of KUDL for their generous acknowledgement. They had a blast all summer, and it showed! Below: sLIMErs on costume night.

WEEK ONE - Weekly lessons are posted via NEWS at the top of the page and LESSON OF THE WEEK, but this one is so integral to what KUDL stands for that it just deserves to live here on our home page ALL THE TIME.
Reading the full version of the Spirit of the Game and the helpful ldquo;Ten Things You Should Know About Spirit of the Game rdquo; are good resources for this week.
Q: Fill in the blank, taken from the preface to the rules: The integrity of Ultimate depends on each player's responsibility to uphold ______________________ .
A: Spirit of the Game (SOTG).
But what is SOTG?
1. Mutual respect between players2. Adherence to the agreed-upon rules3. Basic joy of playing
Spirit of the game permeates the entire sport of ultimate. Unlike other sports, individual players are wholly responsible for their behavior on the field.
SOTG is based upon the Golden Rule: Treat others as you would want to be treated. Spirited games result from mutual respect among opponents. Assume the best of your opponent. Give him/her the benefit of the doubt. You would want the same for yourself. SOTG encourages and enables competitive play, while respecting the rules of the game and safety of all players.
Spirit of the Game sets Ultimate apart from other competitive team sports. For over 30 years, Ultimate has flourished, reaching a highly competitive level, without the use of referees. In Ultimate, the honor system works. Sure, human nature rears its ugly head from time to time - just as in any sport, just as in life. Yet, one of the many beauties of Ultimate is how, even amid the most difficult of situations, utmost graciousness is allowed to meet that challenge head on. Through this balance, Ultimate players are free to demonstrate the most honorable and the most joyous sides of human nature in sport.

LESSON OF THE WEEK: SOTG and throwing
LESSON OF THE WEEK: SOTG and throwing
It never hurts to get experienced players talking about throwing. We can all learn something new in a throwing clinic.
Forehands, back hands, hammers, IOs (inverts), scoobers, bendy curves, blades, push passes, and many more.
For newer players, just focus on developing a strong back hand and an even stronger forehand.
Is everyone going to throw in the game? What kinds of throws and by whom? Strict handler roles? Everyone handles? No positions? Whatever your team wants to do?
