GlueX Detector
An overhead view of Hall D, the newest experimental hall at Jefferson Lab, and part of the 12 GeV Upgrade project. On Dec. 14, operators of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility (CEBAF) delivered 12 GeV electrons (12.065 Giga electron Volts) to the Hall D complex. Critical to the detector system is the superconducting solenoid magnet ndash; the large red and green equipment is the solenoid.
lt; lt; lt; lt; The detector system will be used by the GlueX physics collaboration.
First Magnet Installed
Technicians have installed the first magnet (silver vessel) for the new Super High Momentum Spectrometer in Experimental Hall C. The SHMS is a new detector system that is being assembled for Jefferson Lab rsquo;s 12 GeV Upgrade of its Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility. The newly installed quadrupole magnet will be used to focus sprays of sub-atomic particles from experiments into detectors for measurement.
lt; lt; lt; The Q1, or first quadrupole magnet, has been installed for the SHMS.
Accelerator Delivers its First 12 GeV Electrons
The CEBAF accelerator delivered full-energy electrons on Dec. 14 as part of commissioning activities for the ongoing 12 GeV Upgrade project. Operators of the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility delivered the first batch of 12 GeV electrons (12.065 Giga electron Volts) to its newest experimental hall complex, Hall D.
lt; lt; lt; lt; A view down the South Linac, one of CEBAF rsquo;s two sections of linear accelerator. In the foreground are cryomodules from the original accelerator design. The new C100 cryomodules were installed at the end of each section of linac.
Undergrad Women in Physics Tour Lab
Nearly 150 college students representing 35 colleges and universities from Virginia; North Carolina; Maryland; Washington, D.C.; Delaware and New Jersey participated in a Conferences for Undergraduate Women in Physics event co-hosted by Jefferson Lab and Old Dominion University. On Jan. 16 the group toured Jefferson Lab facilities.

Detector Installation Continues
The new CLAS12 detector is taking shape in Experimental Hall B. Here, the CLAS12 torus magnet central hub (silver hexagonal pipe supported by blue stanchions) is installed, along with the red-and-black Forward Time-of-Flight detectors. This layer of detectors in CLAS12 will measure the time of arrival of the particles produced in experiments, allowing physicists to identify the particles. Behind Time-of-Flight detector, two calorimeter modules are mounted that together will be used to identify electrons, photons and neutrons.
