Making Koya Bound
Craig recently shared a new essay that talks about the process he went through in putting out Koya Bound #8212; as with all of his essays, it #8217;s as informative as it is entertaining to read. I #8217;d also point you to the latest edition of his Roden Explorers newsletter, in which he describes in detail what he experienced during a meditation retreat he attended earlier this year.

Mr. Mendo Comes to Tokyo
My good friend Luis gets a nice feature over at This Works telling the story of how he decided to make a major career change in his 40s (from designer to illustrator, or #8220;drawer, #8221; as he would say) and make the move to Tokyo. It was during that initial 3-month sabbatical that we met, and I could tell then that he would soon be back.

Nicholas Hogg #8217;s Tokyo
Although it was released a couple of years ago, I just came across聽Nicholas Hogg #8217;s Tokyo novel, which appears to be quite good #8212; I think I #8217;ll pick it up. On the promotional site for the book, there #8217;s also a great short video by Samuel Cockeday, a mesmerizing time-lapse of the city.

Toco Toco Summer Special
The summer may be pretty much at its end, but we at least got two new episodes of Toco Toco TV this week, part of its promised #8220;Summer Special #8221; block, as we await the start of the next season. They both focus on filmmakers, Noboru Iguchi and Yoshihiro Nishimura, working in the indie horror genre, and are both fascinating in how frank each creator is about the difficulties of making indie films in Japan these days, with budgets for non-mainstream fare hard to come by and a fraction of what they used to be. It was also quite nostalgic for me to see Iguchi walking around Ikebukuro, the part of Tokyo where I lived for over 13 years.

Picchio Visitors Centre and Ice Rink
The latest project from Klein Dytham Architecture (my ex-employers, while working at PechaKucha) is the聽Picchio Visitors Centre and Ice Rink in Karuizawa #8212; Dezeen has a full post showing off the beautiful complex.

Pink Boarding
I haven #8217;t shared any Tokyoiter covers in a while #8212; while they were preparing for their recent exhibition, the site had gone a bit quiet #8212; but there have been plenty of additions following the show, and the latest one is the lovely cover you see here, created by my buddy Louis-脡tienne Vall茅e.

Indie Megashow Tokyo
Alas,聽Tokyo Game Show is just around the corner, and it #8217;s again going to be something I #8217;m going to miss #8212; along with the legendary pre-TGS聽8-4 party and big Nakame drinkup at Otaru #8212; but I #8217;m still happy to see that there #8217;s now a new cool event set for TGS week, organized by my buddies at Dangen Entertainment. Not only that, but the Indie Megashow Tokyo party/event will take place at my old PechaKucha stomping grounds of SuperDeluxe, so you know it #8217;s going to have an awesome vibe (bolstered by live performances from Megaran and DJ Uppercut). You #8217;ll find details here.
