How Even A Memory Foam Mattress Company Can Rock With Technology!
There is a feeling among some people in business that the internet boom has already passed them by.
First came the dot com rush of the 1990 #8242;s where you could have made millions simply by registering a few good domain names for $10 a go.
Ah damn you say #8230; if only back then I had the foresight to register then I would be rich today!
Then of course the dot com bubble burst and from the ashes rose up some of today #8217;s great internet giants such as Google and Facebook.
Ah damn, if only I had the foresight to create a search engine or build a social media hub then I would be rich!
But here #8217;s the rub. The internet is truly still in it #8217;s infancy. The big opportunities are right here.
If you are old enough to remember those first internet experiences you will know much things have changed in the last 20 years already.
Remember waiting for images on a page to load?
The internet in 50 years will be way beyond what you can imagine right now.
Already many everyday items are becoming connected to the internet.
It remains to be seen whether the digital world will encroach evermore on our reality, like an digital overlay or whether we will live more in virtual worlds.
This is what we stand on the cusp of. If you are young enough to see out the next 50 years it #8217;s going to be awesome!
So don #8217;t tell me that that all the good business ideas are taken. The revolution starts here.
Opportunities are everywhere and not just for brand new ideas existing businesses can and should take advantage of the evolving technology.
Take for example something very ordinary like a mattress company. You would not think that much can be done there to disrupt the established industry would you?
Take for example Casper mattresses who seem to talk their more from the startup world of silicon Valley rather than traditional business.
They make memory foam mattresses and memory foam beds which are very well regarded but it is how they market and sell them that is unique.
From your smartphone in the middle of New York City you can use the Uber app to call up a mobile mattress testing unit!
Simply by entering a code you order the Casper Van to come you. In the back of the van is a small bedroom with a test bed for you to try out!!
The company has achieved great success with this format and orders through their website have increased.
As well as being a great way to communicate with their customers it #8217;s a great publicity tool to spread the words about their business.
They are using technology to 1. be trendy and 2. revolutionise the way they find and serve customers and this is exactly what we think you need to be doing to act like a modern 21st century business.
I hope this shows you how good marketing and technology can be applied to traditional businesses.
If you would like Dyngen to help you utilise technology to disrupt and聽revolutionise your industry then please get in touch.
That #8217;s what we do here on a daily business and we #8217;d love to talk to you about it.

DevCon5 And A Bit Of A Rant About Carry On Luggage
We #8217;re heading to the DevCon5 conference in New York on the 9th and 10th of July.
These events are great for developing new skills and keeping on top of the new trends in html5 development but they can be a pain to organise as we #8217;ve been finding out today.
It #8217;s only a short trip to we had hoped to just take our carry on luggage with us but the restrictions have been changing and it #8217;s confusing. When you are carrying a $3000 laptop you don #8217;t want to put it in the hands of baggage handlers.
Generally, economy class passengers are permitted one carry on bag weighing a maximum -10 kgs, with the total of the span, width and height no greater than 115cm.
My bag was bought a few months before they changed the size restrictions again meaning that it #8217;s now slightly too large. But will anyone bother to check?
Obviously I need to take my laptop with me as that goes everyone and I may need to do bug fixes on the road should a major problem arise.
Some Budget airlines are more inclined to apply the rules but carry ons are just and seldom weighed and you just don #8217;t know what to expect. The reason that airlines do not sort this out is that聽they have made a rod for their own back.Madness would follow at the checkin desk, if an airline unexpectedly applied its own carry on limitations for all passengers. The terminal floor would be littered with individuals repacking their bulging then and check in bag maybe locating themselves hit with excess baggage fees.Families with little kids and babies are virtually promised to be travelling with carryons that are above the limits. The airport staff are unlikely to challenge a mom but a business man with a laptop might just get singled out.Although there are some guidelines about what size of carry on bag you can take I think we #8217;re going to need to either buy another new bag or play it safe and check our bags.
Now that I #8217;ve got that off my chest #8230; what #8217;s DevCon5 and why are we going?
DevCon5 is a developer conference all about developing using聽HTML5. Where as previously if you wanted to do something a little bit special through the web browser in terms of something more like an app than a simple web page you needed to turn to browser plugins such as the dreaded Adobe Flash. While Flash is not dead yet by a long shot HTML5 is where it #8217;s all at and that #8217;s why it #8217;s where the Dynagen team is at too!
Both Steve and Mark will be at DevCon5 so if anyone wants to meet up just give a shout and we #8217;ll see you there. Hopefully our bags will make it too!

Saas or Traditional Software For Mobile Employees?
Working out what is best between SaaS and traditional software is a choice you will need to make when kitting out a mobile work force and for many IT managers it #8217;s a familiar issue.
You will find disadvantages and advantages to both and whichever course your take will be determined by the unique needs of your business. Before you take the plunge here are some things to consider.
it #8217;s important to note, that the total price over the entire length of a Saas subscription may turn out to be greater than with the traditional prepaid choice. However it may be faster and more economical to choose a聽SaaS option in the initial stages. Saas is definately the cheapest way to get started. Whereas an installed on-site聽option will cost more because you are paying all the costs聽for the software setup in addition to licenses, and you may additionally be required to聽buy a server that is suitable for the task.
There are often annual support costs that are on-going. Yet you might be able to聽choose to not continue with the software supplier for support. This will depend on what in house support capabilities your business possesses. You have all the software installed on your own server so you #8217;ve got entire control. It may be possible to pay for helps as and when you聽require it.
A SaaS option might make the most聽sense if you just need a small number of聽users especially if you are boot strapping a startup, while if you have a lot of users and a long established business you might get on better with a traditional purchased and installed software model.
On-premises options can be a safer for those who have high-security needs: information can be encrypted to your requirements and maintaining your server onsite has the benefit that聽you don #8217;t have to use another network at all. Saas solutions are generally safe but they might not be up to your own criteria.
The truth is, an on-premises option is usually more customisable. Changes you want to make to the software to meet your specific business quirks聽and task flows聽will be more easy with this choice.
On the other hand聽you may need to wait for聽updates and bug changes as they may also have to be constructed to meet your customised software, whereas with SaaS updates are delivered automatically.
The Real Reason To Hit The聽Cloud
Eventually a deciding factor might be off site access. If you have a sizeable mobile workforce 聽and you need the option to hook up to your system from outside your workplace then cloud is probably the way to go. The whole system is designed to enable access through a browser from any location. With a SaaS/Cloud option it #8217;s always聽necessary that there is an internet link of some description.
If you only ever want to access your system from the office or warehouse and never聽have any need of getting your option via the internet, or are worried about safety and security, an on-premises install聽might be a better match for your company.
What #8217;s Right For Your Company?
This of course is the million dollar question. The most significant point to聽contemplate聽- SaaS alternatives and assumptions would be to take into consideration your organisation #8217;s requirements. To speak frankly this is not something that #8217;s easy for a layperson to do. We regularly weigh up the pros and cons for cloud vs desktop solutions for our clients and are experienced in reaching the right decisions.
Cloud solutions are the new trend and it #8217;s easy to think that new is always better but this is not always the case. Why not get in touch with us to tell us about your company and let us offer our perspective. If we feel we can help, we will deliver either a traditional desktop or we partner with some SaaS providers where we feel they offer great value.
