salt water people- advice please?
By on Monday, June 2nd, 2014 | 3 Comments
Question by **0_o**: salt water people- advice please?
First off, forgive me for sounding so naive #8230; this is really my hubby #8217;s deal but he is away on business so I am taking care of the aquarium. We have a (new) 55 gal salt water tank set up, and the fish store people told us we needed to have at least 5 fish to #8220;activate #8221; the live rock or something like that. So far 2 fish have died and I cant find the 2 crabs that hitch hiked in on the rocks either. I have a feeling at least one of the crabs is okay, just hiding. But I really hate dead fish. Is there any way to start off without the need for #8220;starter fish.? #8221; Any tips/advice is very much appreciated. Thanks.
They told us the live rock was cured. Can cured live rock still have critters on it? I have 2 crabs, a baby starfish and some little tube feather duster looking things that came in on the rocks. Does that mean it was not cured? Also, why would they tell us we need at least 5 fish for the tank to cycle before we get our #8220;real #8221; fish in 2 months or so?
Best answer:
Answer by xOhDamnLive rock does NOT need fish to activate it.
Since this tank is new.
Your fish WILL die without being cycled.
On this website it shows instructions on how to cure, or #8220;activate #8221; you live rock to a new tank.
Look for method B

By on Monday, June 2nd, 2014 | 3 Comments
Question by Slimmy baybee: I have a 1year old so and i dont know where to take him for easter?
Im from new york
Best answer:
Answer by Peyton #8217;s Mommywe #8217;re going to have an Easter egg hunt at our house. We will probably invite all of our family over and have prime rib after. I just want a nice day out with her but in the comfort of our own home. If anything, we might take her to her aunts if we decide not to do the Easter egg hunt at ours. Just spending time with family, nothing big.

beginner hunter starting hunting! first firearm? PLEASE ANSWER!?
By on Sunday, June 1st, 2014 | 3 Comments
Question by jim p: beginner hunter starting hunting! first firearm? PLEASE ANSWER!?
ahh im so excited #8230; we just bought a house upstate and theres alotttta farmland and forests..some of of my neighbors introduced hunting to me, I LOVE IT! its so fun
i am now ready to purchase my first .22 long rifle
the shells i was using that day were .22 hornet rounds, but now i have a few questions
in New york state, do i need a firearm license to purchase a .22 long rifle? also, when buying ammo like the .22 hornet rounds, are these available in stores such as walmart? and do i need to be a certain age/show them id/firearm licenses to them to buy it?
someone please explain the whole deal to me!
thanks so much, Jim
Best answer:
Answer by mudcreekfarmerFirst as for New York gun laws on long guns
#8220;Rifles and Shotguns: There is no state licensing requirement for the possession of a rifle or shotgun, although any person convicted of a felony or other serious offense and any person who #8220;has been certified not suitable to possess a rifle or shotgun #8221; (mentally incompetent) is prohibited from possession. A person who has been convicted of a felony or other serious offense may obtain a certificate of good conduct which will then permit him to possess rifles and shotguns. Generally, it is unlawful for anyone under the age of 16 to possess any firearm; however, a rifle or shotgun may be possessed by a person between the ages of 12 and 16 who is engaged in supervised target shooting on a range. A minor at least 14 years of age may hunt with any rifle or shotgun, provided he has a valid hunting license and is accompanied by his parent, guardian or other parentally-designated adult who also holds a valid hunting license #8221;
Be aware though that many of the larger cities have additional laws that you will need to research.
The 22 hornet is not the same thing as a 22 long rifle. The ammo for both should be readily available at gun store or sporting good store that carries hunting items.
